What's Happening?

  • The sound of blood flowing will cause part of the round bit, called the diaphragm, to vibrate which will travel up the plastic tubes to amplify the sound.

  • We are trying to listen to see if there is blood flow, because if there is a heartbeat that means blood is flowing through.

Why do we care?

​

  1. There are many ways to multiple places to check heart rate which important to know what parts of your body are getting blood.

  2. It is vital to our survival to have our blood flow through our body, the heart is the main pump in our body that goes to the rest of the body.

    1. Blood vessels carry the blood to the rest of our body

      1. Arteries: carry blood away from our hearts

      2. Veins: carry blood back to our hearts

    2. Blood is made up of a lot of different things

      1. Red blood cells: carry oxygen

        1. Hemoglobin, which is a protein in RBCs and it carries the iron which hold oxygen. This is important to help you live because your cells need oxygen.  

      2. White blood cells: important to your immune system, fight germs, bacteria and viruses.

      3. Platelets: help out blood clot when you cut your finger or something.

      4. Oxygenated blood - bright red

      5. Deoxygenated blood - dark red
